This article is all about the king's gauge - the 1:32 scale. Only a few manufacturers have perfected this gauge. Among Märklin and Fulgurex, which you can find at Modellbahnshop-Lippe.
The Märklin model in today's article is a BR 18 or BR 02 - and you should have seen it! You can learn all about the fascinating technology of the model in this article.
Information about the Role model:
A total of 20 of the class IV H locomotives were built. Starting in 1918, the 4-cylinder locomotives were manufactured by Maschinenfabrik Maffei. The inner cylinders drove the first driving axle and the outer cylinders the second axle. With a top speed of 140km/h, these locomotives were designed for use in front of express trains. The Reingold was also hauled by a class IV H. In 1948, the BR 18 came to the VES-M Halle.
There it received the green paint scheme and a partial covering as well as a new cab. Later, it received an oil main firing and an oil tender at the Meiningen depot. From the age of computer numbers, it was listed as BR 02. In 1972, the class 02 was taken out of service and came to the Dresden Transport Museum. Today, the locomotive can be admired at the Sinsheim Transport Museum.
Information about the model:
The Märklin model can really be seen! The driving characteristics are excellent - just as we are used to from Märklin gauge 1 vehicles. The model can even be used on smaller layouts with a radius of 1020mm: the sliding driving axles and the wide swinging leading and trailing axles make it possible! The streamline fairing under the driver's cab even has a recess for the trailing axle. If you have 2.5m radius available or want to put the model in the showcase, you can also attach the original fairing.
The locomotive's 31 digital functions also include a Telex coupler. This can be exchanged for a screw coupler if necessary. The interior powerplant can be admired through the powerplant lighting. This is fully functional, just like the original.
In addition, the model offers servo-controlled reversing and a built-in Locomotive driver operating the controller. When the locomotive starts up, you can clearly see how the driver pushes the controller forward.
Of course also a pulsed smoke generator on board. The smoke escapes from the chimney and from the cylinders. A small cloud of steam is also produced when the whistle blows.
More highlights
- Completely new development
- Highly detailed full metal construction
- Chassis, superstructure, boiler etc. made of zinc die-cast, attachments made of brass
- Decoder generation with current buffer
- Load controlled wheel synchronous driving noise
- Smokebox door and dome cover to open with many original details
- Top lighting with period-correct light coloring and warm white LEDs
- Red tail light switchable
- Cab lighting
- mfx-Decoder für Betrieb mit Märklin Digital
- Control switching (forward, reverse, continuous operation) in 3 steps with servo motor
Schorsch was completely made of metal as a new design and the chassis, locomotive superstructure with boiler and driver's cab were made of die-cast zinc. The other attachments are also largely made of metal. In general, the model was elaborately provided with many attached elements and highly detailed driver's cab. The smoke box door can be opened and there are more flaps to open, movable cab doors, and much more.
Sound & Steam
Above all, the locomotive is technically at the highest level: Schorsch is delivered with an mfx digital decoder with 32 functions, controlled high-performance propulsion and sound generator with wheel-synchronized driving sound and extensive sound functions. Operation with AC, DC, Märklin Digital and DCC is possible! Of course, the model has a built-in buffer capacitor. All driving axles are powered and a built-in smoke generator emits wheel-synchronous steam - perfectly complemented by multi-stage cylinder steam and steam whistle.
Light functions:
The many different light functions are an absolute highlight on this model: it has an illuminated cab, power unit lighting, a three-light headlight with period-correct light coloring that changes with the direction of travel. A headlight is conventionally in operation and also digitally switchable. Overall, the lighting is provided by maintenance-free warm white LEDs. The red train closing signal can also be switched and can even be turned off completely.
The BR 02 is equipped with spring buffers ex works and is also equipped with a screw coupling at the front and a remote-controlled Telex coupling at the rear. The rear coupling can be exchanged for the enclosed screw coupling. The control switching for forward, reverse and continuous operation is done in 3 steps.
The minimum radius that can be driven on is 1,020 mm. Length over buffers approx. 73.8 cm. Weight approx. 9.2 kg.
This model appears in three variants:
Included with each model is an equipment kit with a screw coupler, steam oil, and gloves. Weighing just under 9.2 kg, the Gauge 1 locomotive comes securely mounted on a black painted aluminum base for display in a showcase.
