Information about the prototype
The heavy freight locomotive built by General Electric saw the light of day in 2005. A 4400 hp engine powers the diesel-electric locomotive. A 12-cylinder diesel engine is used to supply the power for the 6 electric traction motors. Already from the name ES44AC you can see that these are AC motors. This engine concept was developed to meet the stricter emission standards.
With a length of 23.4 meters, it is about 10 meters longer than a European locomotive. Of course, the rail facilities and radii in America are also significantly larger. The freight trains that these locomotives have to handle in multiple traction are in most cases 2 km long or more.
Union Pacific has 1168 of this type in service. BNSF has about 700 and CSX Transportation 550. These figures show that the ES44AC is one of the most frequently built locomotives in the USA.
Information about the model
Märklin and Trix are presenting the H0 model of the type General Electric ES44AC heavy diesel-electric freight locomotive of the Union Pacific Railroad in current operating condition for AC and DC. The model has the same basic yellow paint scheme and has the road number 7495.

The model comes ex factory with a digital decoder and extensive sound and light functions. A controlled high-efficiency drive with flywheel mass is centrally installed and drives two axles in each bogie via cardan shafts. Traction tires are available on the heavy model, as well as switchable top lighting independent of the direction of travel.
In addition, the US diesel locomotive has four lamps at the front and two side-by-side lamps at the rear. The headlights work conventionally and can be turned off separately in pairs digitally. Other lighting functions, such as the cab lighting, road number plates, high beam, and flashing function of the head lights, can also be switched digitally. The lighting is done with maintenance-free warm white LEDs and the standard smoke generator with dynamic smoke output can also be switched digitally. Remarkable are the many separately set details of the model!
For operation with claw couplers, the NEM shaft can be fixed by means of enclosed clamps. A rail scraper with a smaller cutout for the front is included, as are brake hoses and two clamps for the NEM shaft. The model has a length over coupler of approx. 27 cm.
