In this article you will get the most important info about the model and its prototype.
Information about the prototype
The ČSD series S 499.1 is an electric locomotive for passenger service of the former Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD for the network electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current in the south and west of the then Czechoslovakia. It was developed from the S 489.0, from which it differed mainly in its higher maximum speed. Locomotives of this type were also supplied to Bulgaria.
In 1970, 25 S 499.1 locomotives were purchased for the express trains between Kutná Hora and Bratislava and on the Zvolen-Nové Zámky route. After their procurement, the production of locomotives with locomotive bodies made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic ended. Some of the S 499.1 locomotives operated on the Budapest-Kutná Hora route. With the appearance of the ES 499.0 multi-system locomotive and its successor, these machines then took over these services.
The S 499.1 series locomotives were then rebuilt into the S 499.0 series. The first S 499.1 was rebuilt to the S 499.0 series in 1978.
Information about the model
Announced as a novelty in 2022, the beautifully shaped "Laminátka" from PIKO appears for the first time in TT scale. The grace of the machine has been excellently transferred to the scale 1:120 and an absolutely coherent overall picture has been created. The many attractive details, such as the skylights in the engine room, were elegantly implemented and the strongly structuring lines of the locomotive body were visualized by sharp engravings. Technical elements such as the bogies have been precisely reproduced. The colorful paint scheme of the prototype, including dynamic trim elements, also suits the locomotive excellently in the model.
The "Laminátka" is powered by a powerful mid-mounted engine with two flywheels, which acts on all four axles of the locomotive. The lighting in the colors red and white, which changes with the direction of travel, is of course designed in contemporary LED technology. The sound model of the BR S 499.1 has a PSD XP 5.1 S SoundDecoder of the latest generation ex works and also has PIKO TrainSound® onboard.
