EM 2021 - through Italy, but on tracks!

Our journey starts in Italy. Where the companies Trenitalia and Italo have their Trains on the tracks.

The private railway company Italo is based in Rome and offers a fast connection between Italy's major cities with its high-speed trains.

Trenitalia is the subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) and focuses on passenger transport within Italy.

The biggest Train Station in Italy

... and also the 3rd largest train station in the world is Roma Termini. It was built in 1867, but completely redesigned in 1938. The terminus is in the eastern part of Rome and consists of 32 tracks. Up to 150 million passengers arrive and depart here every year.

  • You can only get to the tracks with a valid ticket.
  • There is a shopping center under the train station.
  • The lobby is 128 m long and 32 m wide.

To Italy by train

A cooperation between "Deutsche Bahn" and "Austrian Federal Railways" has long made it possible to travel from Munich to Italy with the Eurocity. It starts in Brenner and goes all the way to Verona, Venice and Bologna. The direct connection makes it possible to travel comfortably to Italy within 5.5 hours - even traveling by night is possible.

Who is up for a weekend get away?

Leonardo Da Vinci

He is one of the most famous artists in the world - and he lived and died in Italy: Leonardo Da Vinci. His most famous works are the painting of the Mona Lisa, the mural “The Last Supper” and the drawing “The Vitruvian Man”.

For the 500th anniversary of the artist, Roco designed a special locomotive that is on the tracks in Austria, Germany and Italy. (In cooperation with ÖBB)

Of course there was a suitable model in 1:87 for the model railroaders. The unusual design of the series 1216 electric locomotive was very popular and has since sold out.

Italy in a miniature wonderland

If the trip to Italy takes too long, you can see the highlights of the country in the miniature wonderland in Hamburg. im Miniaturwunderland in Hamburg ansehen!

One model building highlight stands next to the other on 190m². The “La Dolce Vita” is perfectly reflected. From the Colosseum in Rome to Vesuvius in Pompeii, all the peculiarities of Italy were modeled on their impressive real life models.

Of course, the train service does not get neglected here either! There are around 110 locomotives and 800 wagons on 2,400 meters of track on the section.
